With our rep teams now in full swing, and a few of our older houseleague teams already partaking in games, it is time to begin our full houseleague program for the 2016 season. As you may know, diamonds will be busy due to our record number of registrations this year. Please take note of the following considerations:
If you are doing game snacks, please be aware of allergies (peanut free is a must) and that a small healthy snack is more than enough
Helmets are a must for all batters (even in Jr.T-Ball). You are to provide your own helmet, due to hygenic reasons
All of our coaching staff are volunteers, and put a lot of their own time and effort to make it the best experience possible for your child. Please be respective of what they are trying to accomplish, and please offer to help them out any way you can
This past weekend we hosted our own OBA Mosquito tournament and we have many events planned for the upcoming season. A few important dates for our league’s season schedule:
May 27 - May 29: WMBA Minor PeeWee Rep Tournament – for a second consecutive week, we are hosting another OBA tournament. We have a full slate of games with 12 teams from around Ontario competing. Games will be mainly be played at Joe Sam’s & Carlisle diamonds, with some Sunday gameplay at Gatesbury, so feel free to come out cheer your hometown team and watch some excellent competitive baseball.
Jun 10 - Jun 12: Annual Houseleague Tournament - In addition to normal house league schedules, players participating in Senior T-Ball, Rookieball, Mosquito and, new to this year, PeeWee divisions are included in the annual Waterdown Minor Baseball Spring Tournament. Schedules for these game will be announced in coming weeks.
Jun 10 - Jun 11: Individual and Team Pictures - Picture day for the houseleague is scheduled during the Friday and Saturday tournament weekend. Schedules for these times will also be announced in coming weeks and your coach will advise.
Jul 22 - Jul 24: WMBA Rookieball Rep Tournament – we will be hosting a third OBA tournament, this time in the Rookieball division. As always, we always encourage support from our hometown in any way, so come out to cheer.
Aug 5 - Aug 7: Houseleague Championship Wrap-Up Weekend – For Senior T-Ball, Rookieball, Mosquito and PeeWee divisions, each team will play a minimum number of games over the weekend. Championship finals will involve the top two teams from each division playing a one game final.
Aug 6: Jr. T-Ball Skills Competition and Wrap-Up - All Jr. T-Ball players are invited to participate in a hit, throw & run competition to celebrate the end of the season. Players will also be receiving their end of year awards on this day.
One final note, if you haven’t heard from your coach yet, please contact him/her through the team that your child is assigned. Please feel free to contact us on any help you need.
Let’s play ball and have fun out there!
Annual General Meeting
Thank you to all who participated at our AGM on Oct 28, 2015. It was another great discussion with ideas that will definitely help this association grow and improve over the next few years.
Once again we were almost able to fill every single position on the committee, compared to a handful of people who have been running the association for the past few years. This will be president Mike Kinnear's second year running the show after a great freshman season.
Thank you once again to all the parents and players for your support and enthusiasm over the past season. A special thank you to the committee members that worked to help run the association while wearing many hats.

And another houseleague year is in the books! We had great weather conditions for our year end finale, and it was a fabulous ending to another successful year for the WMBA. Championships were held at various times during this weekend and the trophies have all been handed out! The results for each division were as follows:
Sr. T-Ball: An extra innings nailbiter between the Lawlor Safety Athletics and the Carmeuse Blue Jays, with the Jays holding out for the championship trophy
Rookieball: Another game down to the wire, the Walmart Blue Jays held off the Ontario Stone Supply Giants in a game that went down to the final out.
Mosquito: An overwhelming win for the Sun-Canadian Pipeline Athletics over the Babony Post and Hole Giants
PeeWee: Repeating their success from the mid-year tournament, the Giants held off the persistent Blue Jays for their second championship of the year
Congratulations to all participants, and thank you for all the parents/guardians for making this our best overall season to date. An extra special shout out to all the volunteer coaches, assistants and all those that made things happen smother than we ever could have expected. Let's hope that next year is just as special!
P.S. Don't forget to look out for our ongoing rep team games, and wish those teams success in the upcoming OBA playoffs on Labour Day weekend (which the Minor Bantam B tournament will be hosted by none other than yours truly). We will make announcements sometime in the near future for tryout time slots for 2017 rep teams to be held sometime in September.
A big congratulations goes out to the Major Rookieball team at finishing first in the Ancaster Little League's 2016 48th World T-Ball Championships! The team battled hard late yesterday and came up victorious with a score of 26-12 against a High Park team that they had narrowly beaten a few days before by a score of 23-20. It was a picture perfect weekend as our Waterdown team went undefeated in the round robin and then dominated Windsor south 27-4 to move to the championship. For this highly regarded tournament steeped with history, it marks the first time that a Waterdown team has taken the title in the any of the divisions, let alone the top division in which our major team competed in. Not to be undone, our Minor Rookieball team also competed in a lower division and came out 3rd place finishers! Kudos go out to all players and coaches on both teams for a very eventful civic day weekend!
This September, construction will begin on a long awaited project for two new diamonds along with 3 new batting cages that will be placed at Joe Sams Leisure Park. A shout out goes to our very own Equipment Manager (and vitual Waterdown baseball expert) Gary Zagar on keeping the project going in the right direction. The new development is featured in an article this week by one of our longtime sponsors, The Flamborough Review. More details on what to expect can be found in the article here.
