The baseball season is slowly coming to a close and it is time for tryouts for next year's Rep baseball program. Rep teams are formed with tryout sessions for eligible players rostered with teams playing under the auspices of the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA). Play involves games with teams from the surrounding area & tournaments throughout the spring/summer of the upcoming season. For more information about the Rep program, please see our information listed under Rep & Select in our Youth Programs section on the WMBA website.
The following tryout schedule has been announced and we will be releasing times and places for other tryouts in the next little while for teams in divisions that will be fielded. Please check the WMBA website regularly for any sessions that are added or any changes that may be made to the schedule. For those interested in applying to tryout, please fill out the application form for the respective tryout on our Forms page (click here to be redirected to that page). Harwood Takes Home Bronze Medal in 16U Championships
With another good news story for the WMBA, this past weekend our own Rylie Harwood competed for Team Ontario in the 2018 16U Women's Invitational Baseball Championships, held August 21-27 in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Sliding into Sunday's playoffs after going 1-2 in preliminary action, the Team Ontario team dominated in quarterfinal play against Team BC only to be narrowly defeated 10-9 in the semi-final game by Team Quebec 1. The Ontario team had to settle for a bronze medal in the consolation final game against a strong Team Alberta, holding on to win 15-14 in a high scoring affair. With limited action, Rylie had the second highest batting average on the team and also pitched in a couple games. Congratulations, Rylie!
WMBA Alumni Wilcox Earns Silver Medal in 21U Championships
21U Team Ontario (Wilcox is front row, second from right)
This past weekend, WMBA alumni Lindsay Wilcox competed for Team Ontario in the 2018 21U Women's Invitational Baseball Championships, held Aug 9-12 in Stonewall, Manitoba. After going 3-1 in preliminary action (including a slim victory over other finalist Team Quebec), the Team Ontario team earned a birth to the final championship game after defeating host Team Manitoba in the bottom of the seventh when Wilcox singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. The team had to settle for a silver medal in the final game against a strongTeam Quebec, being defeated 9-1. Congratulations, Lindsay!
After an exhausting weekend, our Minor Bantams were crowned runner-ups in a well-deserved birth in the championship game in their Welland tournament over the weekend. After going 2-0 in early round play on Friday and Saturday against Thorold and Oakville, they earned a bye to continue action on the Sunday. After a blowout win on the Sunday morning against DKMB, they proceeded to earn a come from behind victory in a back and forth affair against the host team. In a day that featured more than 10 hours at the ballpark, after a tight few innings, our Wolves came up short in the end in the championship matchup against an all major Brampton team. Well done Wolves! Congratulations goes out to all players, coaches and families involved!
